1, 2, 3… Dodgeball!!!
Over 100 students, friends and family recently relived their grade-school glory days in the bowels of Mem Gym, playing a cherished pastime – dodgeball!

For most students, it had been years since they last played. Not so for Section C’s Kirk Hetherington. “I played just 10 months ago. My camp, Emerald Bay, has a great tradition of dodgeball.” Unable to make the event, he told his sectionmates that “the key to victory is the simultaneous cross-court throw.”

Section C, though grea

The CCC Welcomes Its New Staff

Janine Hum, Editor-in-Chief

Hometown: Potomac, MD
When I'm not doing casework, I'm usually at Hot Cakes.
When I was five years old, I wanted to be a world-traveling photographer.
My most embarrassing moment at Darden was wiping out on black ice after the snowstorm.
My least-favorite interview question is "What would your friends say about you?"

Why Editor-in-Chief?
img_0037
Quite honestly, this is a no brainer, but I will entertain your question anyway. As editor, I have worked tirelessly to have other people write things for me. It’s been exhausting. Every week, I send upwards of EIGHT EMAILS to people to request content. Then they generally take their time in responding, sometimes waiting as long as 28 hours. I keep a master spreadsheet of the content others are producing for me. This master spreadsheet is really difficult to manage and sometimes I spend entire

Why Publisher?
emily
The Publisher makes sure the CCC’s day-to-day business operations run profitably and efficiently. She turns the lights on in the morning and off at night. Using implementation and strategery, she makes sure the sun rises in the east and that the bills are paid on time. To paraphrase: she makes the donuts.

Were it not for my behind the scenes efforts as the Publisher, my esteemed colleague Catherine Sproul (a delight to work with) wouldn’t even be Ms. Editor-in-Chief… she’d just be a regul

A Note from Sherwood Frey
sherwood3
At the March 25 DSA Cold Call I was honored to receive the “Outstanding Service to Student Clubs” award. I was so surprised by the recognition that evening that I was left speechless. Several hours later, my voice returned and I would like to share with you the thoughts that I wish I had expressed that night.

The roots of my commitment to community go back to my graduate student days at Cal Berkeley. Although the word community was freely used, I rarely felt its presence. Its absence became s

Why Classes Should Be Held Outside

Given what we learned our first year at Darden, holding class outside should be an easy decision. And if the faculty resists, here are a few tips to use in specific classes.

Operations: From a 5S standpoint, lawn-work at Darden offers an example of excellence:

  • Sorting: There's nothing on that lawn except what's needed. I once saw the groundskeeper pick Mark Fallet up and move him away because his mustache was spoiling the view.
  • Set in Order: Everything has a place. Have you ever seen

First Year Curriculum Revamped
Buzzwords: “Restructuring the Rigor” “Capstone Project” “Meaningful Integration”
Buzzwords Take II: “Two Week Spring Break” “Self-Scheduled Exams” “100 Case Party?!?!”

The much speculated-upon new first-year curriculum was unveiled last Tuesday, and it is fair to say that the breadth of the changes lived up to the anticipation. Aside from the total number and subject matter of FY classes, there is very little about the new curriculum that resembles the one we all know

Darden Musicians Rock the Jefferson
The Jefferson Theater was rockin’ last Thursday, April 8th. The DSA was hosting its annual Spring Social, and the bar was wide open for the first couple of hours. In the words of Ben Haberman ‘11, “It is a night to remember…but one I probably won’t!”

The highlight of the evening was live music provided by Blues Jam and the New York City rock band The Stemms. The former is also known as the faculty band and the latter is the band of Ben Noland ‘11.  Both provided the fans with man

Darden Men Finish 10th at Rugby World Cup
Before we get into the official portion of the Rugby Club’s official post tournament write up, we would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped contribute to the team’s success this year.  We would especially like to extend a special thank you to everyone who made the drive to Danville to cheer us on.  We easily had the biggest fan contingent of any of the teams at the tournament and we definitely benefitted from the support.  We also must recognize the efforts of the team memb

Reflections on BGiA 2010
Unless you’ve had the opportunity to meet Barbara Peters, you may not understand the impact of some home renovations on a house in Crozet.

bgia
The month of March is a significant one in Barbara’s life.  It was in the month of March that she married her husband.  It was also the month of March, eleven years ago, that he passed away.  Since that day, Barbara has never slept in her master bedroom.  As she grew more and more depressed from the loss of her husband, her house piled up with stuf
